Delegates will leave with a comprehensive understanding of all the key developments in the latest statutory and non-statutory guidance documents and how they relate to safeguarding provision in schools. This training will examine the following documents and explore what they mean for you:

  • 'Behaviour in Schools’
  •  ‘Searching, Screening and Confiscation’
  •  ‘Working Together to Improve School Attendance’
  •  ‘Suspension and Permanent Exclusion - 2023’
  •  ‘The Safer Recruitment Consortium’s ‘Safer Working Practices’

In addition to statutory compliance, trainer Oliver Welsby will also take delegates through how best to embed this into a whole-school approach - with particular emphasis on each of the key areas that the DfE requires schools to be able to evidence a whole school approach in, including:

  • Online Safety
  •  Child-on-child Abuse,
  • Sexual Violence
  • Sexual Harassment
  • Mental Health and Wellbeing

KEY LEARNING OBJECTIVES
This masterclass will enable you to:

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the key safeguarding issues within documents relating to safeguarding provision within schools
  • Understand the key safeguarding and compliance issues that regularly present as problems in inspections.
  • Understand how to evidence compliance and show effective action in practice to deliver the most comprehensive safeguarding provision for your school.
  • Clarify and understand exactly what an effective a whole school approach would look like in your setting.
  • Ensure safeguarding governance in your education setting is effective.
  • Understand how staff’s mental health can be impacted, and how you can protect their mental health
  • Develop a robust and effective bereavement policy

This training is facilitated by Oliver Welsby:

Oliver Welsby has extensive experience in pastoral leadership as both a DSL and a Senior Mental Health Lead. He leads Brightcore Consultancy; a team of consultants who have a particular focus on enhancing safeguarding and mental health provision in education settings. They work with over 750 schools, colleges, and trusts, along with several Local Authorities nationwide, to enhance all aspects of their provision in these fields.

He is both an Advanced Safeguarding Trainer and Senior Mental Health Lead Trainer, (training DSLs and DSMHLs for a number of different Local Authorities, MATs, and individual settings, across all sectors), and regularly writes and delivers highly acclaimed, bespoke training programmes to support settings in these areas.

In addition, Oliver works as a Local Authority Designated Safeguarding Lead Champion, an Accredited Safer Recruitment Trainer and as a Safeguarding Supervisor. Oliver regularly speaks at, and chairs, sector conferences on safeguarding and leading effective mental health provision. Student and staff wellbeing have always been at the heart of Oliver’s approach to education. He is known for his dynamic, authentic and non-judgemental approach to all aspects of his delivery.
