This course is perfect for Designated Safeguarding Leads and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads who want a full introduction to the role and the responsibilities it entails.

The role of the designated safeguarding lead (DSL) carries a significant level of responsibility. It is therefore vitally important that those undertaking this role and those who are deputy designated safeguarding leads (DDSL) are fully trained and remain up to date with current safeguarding issues.

This masterclass provides an essential introduction to the role of designated safeguarding lead and deputy designated safeguarding leads. It is aligned with current legislation, guidance, best practice, and the requirements of the Ofsted inspection framework.

This masterclass will enable you to:

  • Understand the purpose and importance of the designated safeguarding lead and deputies.
  • Understand the role of partner agencies and services and how to work effectively with them.
  • Awareness of professional curiosity and the importance it plays in safeguarding children.
  • Awareness of the emotional impact from the disclosure of abuse on you and colleagues.
  • Understand and explore your school’s safeguarding policy framework
  • Identifying the barriers to effective information sharing and how to overcome them.
  • Understand how personal values and beliefs can impact on safeguarding practices.
  • Understand the tools of resolution and escalation to assist in disagreement between professionals
  • Awareness of other multi-agency safeguarding arrangements e.g., MARAC and MAPPA.
  • Understand the role and responsibilities of the Local Safeguarding Children Partnership.
  • Awareness of the role and responsibilities of the designated safeguarding lead in the local reviews of serious child safeguarding cases.
